If you fancy a fight -laden kung fu flick with shapes coming out of KAO FEI , in much the same way they did in MASTER KILLERS.If you are inclined to kung films with names such as LEE HOI SAN (cameo),CHIANG TAO, BOLO , DRAGON LEE and the aforementioned KAO FEI ,going at it at every chance , then this is the movie for you .
Not much substance in the way of story or plot-----KAO FEI is a diamond smuggler whose main rival / competition CHIANG TAO , has been earmarked for termination by KAO FEI . One of CHIANG TAO'S henchman ---an unknown black actor ,with some serious skills---is playing both sides ; he un-fortunately has out-lived his usefulness and is also slated for termination . He however has some friends ,CHEUNG NIK and DRAGON LEE, with more than a passing interest in KAO FEI'S mis-deeds, and decide to help him by joing the fray.
I must say , PHILLIP KAO FEI , is the un-dipsuted king of shapes .He unfurls a range and diversity of shapes , that conjured up memories of his exploits in MASTER KILLERS.
The film has a new-age or modern day setting , but it's old school kung fu makes it particularly savoury . DRAGON LEE'S best effort , to my mind .
The film is listed with JOSEPH KUO as director--the director is actually JOSEPH KONG , whose other directorial credits include' bruce lee in new guinea', 'bruce strikes back'.
Also , please be advised that while this movie is called DRAGON ON FIRE (enter three dragons) ,It should NOT be confused with THE DRAGON , THE HERO aka 'dragon on fire'--starring john liu. Especially in view of the fact that PHILLIP KAO FEI, BOLO and DRAGON LEE are in that piece as well.
If you are looking for thought-provoking dialogue ,an engaging story, and shakespearin lines , then you might wanna try another product line. However , if you are in the market place for a fight-a-minute old school/ new age flick with some solid kung fu being served up continously, then put this on your dvd rack , it is A MUST HAVE.
This comes with my personal seal of approval.
