Bruce Li is yet again cast to pretend to be Bruce Lee, and this time the meta movie goes meta. As you know, Bruce Lee died while filming Game Of Death, and Bruce Li is (in this film) hired to shoot the scenes missing to finish the film.
In real life Tai Chung Kim and Yuen Biao did those scenes, and the end result was a mess. In Goodbye Bruce Lee it becomes even worse.
Li is recruited to shoot the scenes and is invited to the movie company to see what has already been filmed. When the film starts rolling in the cinema, we suddenly get to see the finished film, with Li in the starring role from beginnging to ens - and it's not the proper Game Of Death story either, apart from the tower-floor-by-floor in the ens. Some similarities exist - a black man who is supposed to be Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is so terribly laughable that you wonder what the hell they were thinking.
When the movie they watch ends, the movie you watch ends - the surrounding story in the beginning is completely ignored.
Bonus points for funky disco tune "King of Kung-Fu" over the opening credits.
The anamorphic widescreen transfer I saw was faultless, if only more films had this quality!
