This films kicks off with a bang, we are treated to a slick and tighlty choreographed fight that really sets a high standard for the rest of the film. Thankfully the rest of the film lives up to this high standard opening.
This is at its heart a kung fu comedy, im not the biggest fan of comedy in my kung fu flicks but for me the Benny Hill stlye stuff put on show in this flick is so extreamly over the top and camp (in more ways than you may first imagine.) that i could not help but laugh at many of the goings on in the movie. One of the comedic highlights beging an excessive amount of bannan skins being used as a ploy to trip the bad guys and help our heroes escape there fists.
Lee Yi Min is on top form as always with Mark Long co-starring and doing what he does best, kicking all types of shit out of his enemies. Pang Gang plays the bad guy and he is a true villian in this flick in every sense of the word, he just kills and rapes who ever he pleases and his colourful lackies are all just as bad, but also also alot stranger!!!!!
Lets get to the storyline. Our heroes are abit down on their luck and end up learning a technique known as super kung fu from an old master so that they can take on Pang Gang. Everything in between is nice action with Pang Gang going around messing up everyone and lots of OTT comedy, peotry contests for a fat girls hand in marrige, trying to sweet talk a pervy villian ect.
The action is some of the most intense and near perfect i think i have seen in a long time, the moves are so tightly choreographed and well deleived that it truely is a joy to view. technically this is top of the line stuff and as a later Twainese shapes flick it represents the genre at the peak of its game, with all stars pulling out all the stops for heart pumping results.
Definately a flick that you need to see, i am genuinely suprised that this has not been hailed as a classic in kung fu circles, don't overlook this title as it represents the genre at its finest.
4 out of 5
Please note: the widescreen version avalible from original film source is cut, from what i can tell the cut is not to the action but a scene that may have been racially offencive. In the trailer (which can be viewed on you tube) there is a scene with an indian man in a resturant, this has been cut and from what the trailer shows it appears to be far from politically correct.
