Never take the directorial efforts of LIU CHUN KU (bastrad swordsman 1 & 2 ; the master ) lightly. This man is throughly proficient at how to use budget --limited or otherwise-- to full effect; His uncanny ability to use kung fu as the strongest selling point of a film is also strikingly remarkable. In CRAZY HORSE, INTELLIGENT MONKEY , he uses the martial arts prowess of CHI KUAN CHUN to lead the way .......... effectively carrying a pretty average story ; Martial arts and story works well as there are shapes on display to make action directors /choreographers like the YUENS CLAN (invincible armour) ; TANG CHIA (avenging eagle) ; HSU HSIA ( threE evil masters) and even LIU CHIA LIANG (invincible pole fighter) green with envy.
The story is a rather sordid tale of the escapades of a happy-go-lucky CHI KUAN CHUN who after wasting much of his youth on finding a reason to live , he meets someone ; a mentor ,who gives his life meaning , so much so that now he has found a reason to die.........
CANDY WEN ( lady assassin) ; CHU TIET WU ( legendary weapons of china) HAN KWOK CHOI ( kid from kwang tung )----all SHAW ALUMNI-- gave creditable perfromances. Some comedy , but not enough to erode interest in the material.
This movie is only available thorough FLASHLEGS---to my knowledge ; and the work done by them , is truly tremendous ....!
A lost treasure , found and restored , so the ' kung fu community ' and beyond can enjoy over and over again..!
