The Wong Fei Hung series, starring Jet Li, is a legendary collection of martial arts films that spans five parts. Last Hero of China is considered the fourth instalment in the series. In this film, Jet Li portrays the iconic Wong Fei Hung, a highly skilled and revered Kung Fu master who is deeply devoted to teaching his students. As the story unfolds, Wong Fei Hung becomes aware of a nefarious plot involving the kidnapping of young girls, who are being trafficked into a brothel run by corrupt local government officials. Amidst this tension, Wong Fei Hung participates in a lion dance competition, but a troubling incident occurs: his students and others are suddenly struck deaf in both ears due to an experimental Western medicine he had taken to treat his patients. This event leaves Wong Fei Hung vulnerable, and he is soon defeated by the villainous centipedes, led by a character disguised as Lei. The film features stunning action sequences, showcasing Jet Li’s signature martial arts talent, along with impressive performances from his co-star, Liang Kar Yan, also known as Beardy among Western fans. The movie was produced by Jet Li himself, with Wong Jing stepping in as the director. As always, the film delivers the high-energy action and dramatic intensity fans expect from a Wong Fei Hung film, blending traditional Kung Fu with an engaging narrative.
