An impressive array of top martial artists comes together in this JACKIE CHAN'S directorial classic to give life to a well-rounded story , brooding with the talents of traditional baddies like ;YEN SHI KWAN ;PANG GANG ; EAGLE HAN YING and even JAMES TIEN.The in-escapable presence of funny-men LI KUN and SHEK TIN gives a tsateful comedic flavour without berating the material into a purile laughfest .
JACKIE CHAN'S presence as leadman with some solid melodramatic moments as well as some superb kung fu shapes , give the film a solid base upon which to build ----------
The film did build ------
To a well-crafted , well-contrived martial arts spectacle with moments to cherish from the actors ; the acting and the action.
Shapes on hand had a YUEN WO PING ( drunken master) signature , no doubt coming from CHAN'S association with the YUEN'S. Not enough room in the story to give full credence to the brilliance of perennial baddies like HAN YING and PANG GANG ; however , YEN SHI KWAN showed what a white haired fox villian is all about , as his clan "heaven and earth", seeks the systematic destruction of JACKIE CHAN'S clan ----yin / yang culminating in a magnificent climatic battle scene with shapes to die for -----and of course to die of-----
An ordinary film with extra-ordinary moments , all adds up to a fascinating viewing experience wheteher you are a fan of the genre or not.
A wonderful addition to your JACKIE CHAN collection and even a better addition to your general inventory.
