Any review of this film should be prefaced by the fact that Wong Jing and Jackie Chan hate each other, stemming from major issues that arose during the filming of City Hunter. Jackie even tried to get Wong fired during the film
Wong Jing got his revenge on Jackie in this Corey Yuen cherographed action spectacular. Jet Li plays a former army officer who leaves his commision in the army after failing to save his wife and child from an attack by a mad bomber and his army. He now works for Frankie (played very hillariously by Jackey Cheung) who is a drunk, skirt chaser, and no longer does his own stunts for which is his famed for. Wong Jing basically did everything short of just naming the character Jackie and taking every rumour about him and bringing it to life. Jet Li soon finds himself trying to protect his boss and hostages after the mad bomber who killed his family takes a gala party of the Russian Czars jewelry hostage in order to steal them.
This film is extremly indebted to Die Hard (the two films Chinese titles were virtual identical) yet has a great sense of insanity that makes the film quite winning sucj as the driving around of a car in the middle of a hotel gunbattle.Wu Ma has a great supporting role as Frankies father.
Great action and comedy make this film a great deal of fun to all but to super sensitive Jackie Chan fans.
