Emaxx A definite must see / must have....!!
The production company , Success Film Company, which gave you such classics as BEGGAR OF NO EQUAL ,STRIFE FOR MASTERY, and CRANE FIGHTER , showcases another ol' skool vintage. Admitedly , not as good as the aforementioned , in terms of over all quality; It holds a special appeal with stars like RAYMOND LIU (bloody mission), CHI KAUN CHUN (eagles claws) and WEN CHIANG LUNG (18 swirling riders).
The story is neither here nor there , however , the gist of it surrounds a conman --RAYMOND LIU, who's girlfriend is being remanded in a brothel until he can remit a dowery of 200 taels. He befriends a fresh from the country bumpkin CHI KUAN CHUN , and swindles his money. But as fate would have it , he loses it in a casino .An unusual friendship develops between the two ,a friendship in which distrust is propably the most obvious component.
The dramatic inter-play of love and loyalty between the main stars and his love interests had a pedestrian effect on the mid-section of the film ,but the martial arts was dsitributed nicely through the rest of it.Some solid if not memorable action between CHUN and LIU, including one fight scene that was' shapes personified'.
WEN CHIAN LUNG is the baddie , and in much the same way as the flick PAI YU CHING, he redeems himself well with some solid fighting. Fighting is pre-dominantly hand to hand but nothing is amiss as the combat is top drawer stuff.
CHI KUAN CHUN is in pretty good form with some pretty good shapes in what I consider to be a pretty good movie.
Worth owning.
A collector's must....!!!!!!
