Subject: Who is YI KI in Death Duel of Kung Fu 1979?

Hi everyone!

Phil from Far East Films directed me this way and my post extends on their review of DDKF by Mike Banner.

Here's the question:

Who played the role of "Yi Ki" in the movie? For those of you who can't remember, she is the beautiful Japanese spy who apparently takes off her top in the gambling house, revealing a cheesy dragon/snake tatoo, amongst other things.

My guess is that she is a South Korean actress but I could be wrong here. She doesn't like Chinese or even Korean at all although initially I assumed that she probably was a Korean extra who got a bigger role since the movie was filmed in Korea. Like Secret Rivals, DDKF had a Korean contingency of extras minus a big female star like Lu Hsiu Chen. However YI KI's perfect teeth suggests that she might have been imported from somewhere else. Pure speculation though.

Here is pic from Mike Banners review:

She's beautiful eh?

BTW HKCinemagic gives credit to Fanny Wang as well but I can't believe its the Fanny from The Victim 1980. On the other hand HKMovieDatabase does not credit anyone for the female lead.

Here's a pic of Fanny Wang from Hong Kong for comparison:

Close but no cigar!

Any help would be appreciated!

If someone knows John Liu, please ask him cause he got to kiss her on screen upstaging Don Won To

Good question my friend.....these females that made ONE HIT movies seemed to have gone of the scales and its kind of sad after such good performances.

Perhaps someone here might have information about them.

In the case of Fanny Wang...at least she made other movies besides the Victim.

Normally I would not look twice, even at a pretty face, but she played a major role and was in not one but a couple of scenes which included a kiss/fight/death scene with John Liu.

And I'll let Phil know too.

Holy Shi! Thanks for the scoop Pete Jr.

Is there a lobby card for Death Duel of Kung Fu as well?

I can get my wife to translate.

(Also the pics didnt show up for the extra in the post above.)

Pete...How on earth did you get this pic? You're a miracle worker Thank goodness for that one kung fu geek who had the foresight to save every ounce, every byte, of kung fu flick mania years ago so that someone like myself can even get close to hot starlette.

You have successfully teased a newbie, if that was your goal

Folks, I gotta tell ya that this so called "lobby card" stirs up so many memories of my childhood growing up in Chinatown in T.O. Yes I am a real Chinatown kid, kung fu slippers, hockey stick and all.

I saw DDKU at the Golden Harvest theatre in 79 when I was 9. my fingers were pressed on the glass that encased these great shots of the double bill that was to be seen that afternnon. The first movie would often be a Kung Fu flick and the second, either a Taiwanese Brigette Lin CharlieChin romance or a HKcomedy like the Yellow Panther or Winner Takes All...boy those were great days!!! I went with my Mom initially then as I matured, with my younger brother and cousin. Violence, nudity, laughs and tears in a relatively clean, non-Grindhouse, theatre at the corner of Spadina and Dundas...what else could a kid ask for on the weekend. If these double features werent entertaining, they were at the very least culturally educational. I've often pondered about which era did Sino-Tibetan-Mongloids lose their ability to fly

And yes I will make it my mission to translate every spec, every Zin, Zhen, or Zheng of info on that card!

No tease jimlee008 FLK forum has been around for over 10 years and we don't tease fans we are fans like you ....with the same passion and love for the genre. I've been uploading Lobby's for years but sadly NO ONE HERE REALLY APPRECIATES These anymore..

Perhaps because you are a new member why you've not noticed the amount of Lobby's I've been uploading on FLK for years.

In regards to Death Duel Of Kung Fu...Here you have the Chinese lobby-card with the German stamp on it.

Before my wife started slapping and kicking me (its 240 am in T.O.) and screamming"...GB's arent free but slaps are...", she pointed out that the characters are top-down, starting with the top cluster of names- i think we all know who those 3 guys are. The middle name with three letters must be hwang's name and the two, double character names surrounding his, belong to don and john. Don's last name in Wang, i'm sure that its the most right of the top three names, the charcter with 3 parallel lines and a fourth line them bisects them. therefore liu chun liang must be the very first double character name - he must be using one of his aliases like chun liang.

The next large group is where "fany wang" must be. My wife says that the last group contains the director, producer etc. Oh no its my wife again... more on this tomorrow, stay tuned, same site, same forum...(outgoing Batman music from 60's).

edit: whoops john liu is indeed the three character name in the first group of names at the top. Looking at the Lobby card for secret rivals, I thought the villian was Hwang Jang Lee but its Eagle Han Ying which in chinese has two charcters 韓鷹. looks like the Korean veteran actor gets dibs on the other two chinese guys since the movie was a joint venture. Don Wong is the last of the threesome, to the most right.

Ask your wife to use HKMDB as a collaboration tool...

Please login to view this link...

Please login to view this link...

She will be able to use HKMDB to collaborate the English names of the stars with the Chinese names and use the process of elimination to find YI KI's real name...try to remember that YI KI's real name may not be Chinese.....she may be Japanese and this can give a clue as to her name spelling in Chinese.

we'll do!

Just want to seek in one more tid bit - on the middle cluster there is a large group and a small group of names. The small group of names accordn to wife is special guest star which could refer to the guy who gets his head cut off at the beginning. The other name has surname KIM and looks like its a chinese translated Korean name. This could be Fanny! In the larger group of names to the right, there is a double charcter name with Surname KIM as well this could be her too. Looks like I'll need someone who has more vocabulary (and PATIENCE) then my wife. Good nite!
