Subject: Kung Fu Bible In The Making!!

With so many knowledgeable fans on FLK who find it relatively easy to work together without the arrogance and cocky behavior we sometimes tend to see elsewhere....

WHY? don't we setup a KUNG FU BIBLE THREAD on here and come up with a way for NEW & OLD fans can read a particular thread and learn about the genre by way of perhaps adding new info and on a particular subject within the genre such as all the BEST PUNCH & BLOCK MOVIES of the 70's and then all the BEST SHAPES of the 80's give them ratings and brief info on the expected viewing criteria....

I'm hoping the main EXPERTS On this forum can assist me in this that BEING POLLYPOLLY, KWAI CHANG and EAGLES CLAW CHAMP, IRONFISTEDMONK. FRANCESCO, WHIRLWIND, HWANG JANG LEE, TANTAO2 if he is game for this..he certainly is the BEST person I know for information on 70's era that is second to none.

We can start with information such as the VERY FIRST PUNCH & BLOCK film ever made and a STAR mini profile in the thread....

If it WORKS OUT we can all PUBLISH the information in a BOOK....My friend NINJA SENAI can assist us with the publishing of the book perhaps.....

My self KWAI CHANG & POLLYPOLLY can work out a procedure how we can do this with ideas from everyone else here making this a SUPER PROJECT.

COME ON ALL YOU FANS OUT THERE LETS GET THIS ON AND MAKE IT A TEAM EFFORT KUNG FU BIBLE

FORMAT idea.....

1970's SPECIALS In the PUNCH & BLOCK -BASHER category.

Vengeance! aka Kung Fu Vengeance (1970)

Main Stars:

David Chiang

Brief Info about this movie:

Rating from 1-10 = 7

Good idea Pete, you won't get much use out of me regarding the bashers though!

Sounds interesting Pete. It might be worth creating a separate forum section for this and collate the information within it. This would be easier to navigate and we could add to relevant topics threads on stars/sub-genres etc.

Yes Goldy but we are not concentrating on just Punch & Block -Bashers we want to cover the entire genre my friend and you are a swordplay fanatic which makes you a major player in this area....

Good idea KC I think you mean something like the setup in the Reviews thread area.....I will need my brother Adam to assist on that or perhaps try to set this up myself with my newly found skills in scripting. This is the sort discussion I need KC and then try to put it all together perhaps.

Eastern Heroes published a KUNG FU BIBLE in the mid 90's and it was very well put together by Toby Russell and Rick Baker...I will try to find my copy and scan the front cover and some inside pages for all to see tomorrow. I personally think we can all do a MUCH BETTER VERSION in this 21st century with a lot more information than ever before.

the concept behind this idea is EVERYONE BECOMES A PLAYER...

That's the format I was thinking of Pete. We should think of each thread as a chapter and just add as much relevant information as possible. It might also be worth having a separate thread within the section for general project discussion/progress. That way the threads (chapters) are purely fact based with drafted essays/pieces.

  Thanks for mentioning me Pete

I will happily contribute towards the basher/punch & block section. I don't have too much time on my hands nowadays but I'll certainly give it a good crack. I also think we should include screenshots too - but screens could have a uniform layout so that it doesnt get too messy. I think that when people are looking for a particular film, then they'll want to see what it looks like too. It would frustrate me slightly if I saw a mini-review of something which received a 9 out of 10 rating but didn't have any screenshots!

Excellent ideas KC.......I will try my best to get something going on this after we decide our ultimate goal forward....Well I knew if I picked you and Polly as supporters you both would have been the first to suggest something beneficial.

Again excellent ideas Polly...I'm hoping Whirlwind joins the band-wagon on this because he is the man that can assist with the BEST POSSIBLE SCREEN SHOTS to make this come together looking professional as you say Polly.

BTW KC every single member on FLK can take part in this project and we should set a deadline to have something in PRINT by the year 2011

Woow. This sounds like an epic project. Is there a chance you would reconsider the out of 5 or out of 10 rating system to simplify it. Or if possible rate the same film using three members to get an overall picture. The truth is when i see a rating that says 3/5 or 7/10 it tells me that its "ok" but not worth rushing to get. For example HKflix reviews have loads of classic films under 3/5 which winds me up because it tells me nothing if i will like it. If you dont like the idea of the 3 See Fu Judges how about a rating out of 3. Avoid-Rent-Buy. With the judges system you can have the hardcore fan, the casual fan and the star driven fan (i.e if this is a David Chiang classic). Its not worth seeing loads of titles with "well its ok" ratings as it will put off fans of the whole genre.

This sounds like it could become the wikipedia of kung fu, only without all the rubbish. I love to read about movies I haven't watched yet, and often it gives me the urge to dig them out and finally watch them. Looking forward to seeing how this developes.

How about doing this on the AMRS database which already has 100`s of film pages with pictures & info but could use some mini reviews etc like you mention above ...

And then each user can easily add their rating to the film as LeungKar1 suggested.

. What is this hatred you have for Born Invincible Ninja Sinai. In the reviews is their any chance of a small section for "If you like this you will like....." or "To be seen with...."? Plus any chance of a page with what the Judges favourite films are so the reader can relate to one of them? Plus a page on the importance of seeing a Kung Fu film in Widescreen and how seeing it in Pan & Scan ruins the overall experience. ARE YOU READING THIS FIREFLY.

Good suggestion Whirlwind however this is not going to be anything with the similarities to a DATABASE....this is more on the level of a end result that leads to a book and I wanted all non-AMRS members to take part....at the end of it all we will have to name this book and I really wanted to keep this separate from AMRS.

Good news is I asked my brother Adam and he loves the idea and is willing to set something up USER FRIENDLY on our forum similar to the REVIEWS section as Kwai Chang already suggested. I thing KC had it all figured out in a similar prospective as I did......So I intend to make the set up where he is the main ORGANISER after me with full capabilities to add an alter information to all the suggestions threads.....

I hope you accept this position KC....

These are the kind of suggestions we need leungkar1...we will have to look at your ideas seriously and take on board what is beneficial considering you are a fan all ideas from fans such as you are IMPORTANT to this project.

Well I'm hoping you will assist with this project Kaleyboy because I know you have emerged as a serious supporter of FLK and I would really like to encourage your support by inviting you also as an organiser perhaps. I think the best way to instill your newly found enthusiasm with us is to do this....I await your reply on this I just PM'd you also.

I can almost see this coming together already

Actually I agree with Whirlwind about the database, although maybe the two could be combined in some way. For example anything posted in the Bible could be copied across to make the database more complete. Pete and Chris have done some amazing work on the database and the more info that goes on there will make it an even more valuable resource!
